Alumni Spotlight


Bret Carter (Class 28) Bret has been named President of Duke Energy Carolinas, effective December 1.  In his new role, Carter will be responsible for advancing the company's rate and regulatory initiatives, and managing state and local regulatory and governmental relations, economic development and community affairs.  He will also focus on education and advocacy on issues important to Duke Energy.

John Eller (Class 28)  John has been named the Executive Director of the Catawba County Department of Social Services in Hickory, NC.

Dr. Felecia Harris (Class 17)  Endorsed as Certified DiSC Trainer.  As one of the less than fifty nationwide, Felecia achieved her Certified DiSC Trainer status by completing extensive coursework, applying her knowledge in the market, and successfully completing a rigorous one-on-one practical examination.


 

November 2008 Updates

Sue Gorman (Class 28) was recently honored with a Bobcats 2008 My Hero Gala Award. Sue was recognized for her outstanding leadership with Parent University, an initiative to increase parents' capacity to actively and effectively support their children's education in a global economy.

Beverly Grant (Class 28) has been named Interim Executive Director of International House. Beverly joined International House in May 2008 as the Director of Development. IH promotes understanding by serving as a center for diversity, advocating for people of diverse national backgrounds, and facilitating professional and cultural programs. ihclt.org
   
Lori Hurd (Class 23)  After 7 years as CEO of Girl Scouts Hornets Nest Council, Lori has taken a new position effective September 15, 2008 as President of the National MS Society for the Mid Atlantic region.

Alicia Jolla (Class 29) has joined Target Corporation in Minneapolis, MN as Manager, Supplier Diversity.  Alicia.jolla@gmail.com

Mark Peres (Class 26) is celebrating the 5-year anniversary of Charlotte Viewpoint, an online magazine and community forum dedicated to enrich public discourse about civic and urban life.  Mark is the President and Editor of Charlotte Viewpointwww.charlotteviewpoint.org 

Oded Shein (Class 29)
 received the American Financial Professionals Pinnacle Award.  The Award recognized an enterprise risk program at Belk, where Oded is the Treasurer. Gary Nesbit, Risk Manager at Belk, shared the award. Oded_Shein@belk.com

Regina Smith (Class 24) has accepted the position of Program Officer - Arts and Culture with the Kresge Foundation of Troy, MI. www.kresge.org
 

Jaz Tunnell (Class 28) joined Piedmont Natural Gas Company as a Community Relations Manager.  His responsibilities include the corporate philanthropy program, external community relationships, and representing PNG's legislative priorities.  jaz.tunnell@piedmontng.com

Mike Whitehead (Class 20) was profiled in the Charlotte Observer Business section on October 26.  The Whitehead Manor Conference Center, a 5,000 square foot addition to the Whitehead Manor, will open in December.  whiteheadassociates.com
